Voters turnout - are we realizing the importance of our vote?

Each vote counts - how often do we hear this line when the elections are around? Pretty often, right! Thinking about it, voting is certainly very important, it is a very vital step towards choosing the right leaders to lead our country forward. Even though voting is so important, why isn't there NEVER been a full turnout for voting in elections, general or state?

Voting turnout in 2009 general elections - only 59.7% of people turned out to vote in the 2009 general elections. A stat that's deeply saddening considering the value of general elections. People are fed up with Indian politics, fine. But in order for a change, voting the right party/candidate is the ONLY solution.

In the recent New Delhi elections, the all time record of voters turnout was broken, with 67% voters turning out to vote. The AAP party without doubt motivated people to vote. AAP - playing its 'aam aadmi' card successfully managed to gain people's trust and hence, more people turned out to vote for this fairly new party which had a strong manifesto to support it. Even though BJP gained more votes, one has to agree that the competition between the 2 parties was well fought and it was more so because more people turned out to vote, which ensured that no party got the clear cut majority to come into power in the capital. AAP eventually did come into power with Congress' outside support and with the help of 2 MLA's but one thing was proved - the people of Delhi without doubt used their vote right and realized the importance of their votes.

Not only in the capital but definitely the voting turnout was very satisfying in the state elections of the above 4 states. The image says it all and as an Indian, it's a matter of great satisfaction to see people realizing the importance of their vote.

In the general elections, will the same be repeated? Are you ready to cast your 'precious' vote? In order for a change, voting is the way forward. Each vote is the stepping stone towards a much brighter and prosperous India.

There are television ad campaigns currently on to raise awareness and urging people to vote. I as a blogger hope to do the same. Do vote and vote right. :)

  1. No good leaders around, that is the main cause of demotivation.
I will be going to vote but can't make up my mind yet for whom to vote.
